COMPANY PROFILE

CBK Power Company Limited (CBKPCL) is a duly registered company existing under Philippine Laws which was incorporated with its original owners to implement CBK BROT Agreement under the Built-Rehabilitate-Operate-Transfer (BROT) scheme of the Philippine Government through National Power Corporation.  CBK PCL officially took over the management of the three hydroelectric power plants or the CBK Complex, last February 7, 2001. CBK PCL was formed with the primary thrust to:

• Build Kalayaan II
• Rehabilitate / Upgrade Caliraya, Botocan and Kalayaan I
• Build new Spillway for Lake Caliraya
• Rehabilitate Caliraya Dam
• Operate All 4 Plants
• Transfer to NPC after 25 years

In April 2005, two Japanese firms, Electric Power Development Co., Ltd (J-Power) and Sumitomo Corporation acquired from the original owners the CBK BROT Agreement with National Power Corporation.

J-Power is Japan’s biggest power wholesaler established in 1952 and operates among various types of power station and 59 hydropower plants with the total capacity of 8.6 gigawatts. The company is known to have the largest pumped storage capacity in the world.

Sumitomo Corporation is one of Japan’s major integrated business enterprises with 1800 megawatts of owned generating capacity and assets of more than 48.2 billion dollars.

The Japanese expertise, work ethics, discipline, and fresh capital investments significantly improved plant reliability.  CBK PCL upgraded the guaranteed capacity of all three power plants from 349 MW to a total guaranteed capacity of 728 MW.

At present, CBK can provide more than 728 megawatts of clean, renewable and indigenous power.  It is the heart of Luzon Grid providing Black Start Capability, Frequency Regulation, Load Following, Spinning Reserve and other ancillary services which help stabilize the grid. It operates 24 hours every day, all year round.
